A coalition of asset managers and pension funds has filed a formal complaint with the Norwegian financial supervisory authority, Finanstilsynet, demanding a probe into Equinor’s public statements on its climate strategy.

The investors allege that the state-controlled energy giant is giving a "sense of false comfort" about its alignment with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C temperature goal, potentially misleading the market and shareholders, including the Norwegian government itself.

The complaint, spearheaded by UK-based Sarasin & Partners, names several prominent signatories, including Rathbones Group, Railpen, and Robeco.
